23rd April 2024 – Earth Day

As the theme of Earth Day is Planet vs Plastics we made good use of some plastic by reusing it. We used the plastic inner cereal box liners to make sit-upons.
(plastic cereal box inner, clearer and larger the better – 1 per Brownie, newspaper (lots). A4 white paper and felt pens, gaffer/duct taper). First we drew two pictures. Then we sandwiched some newspaper between our sheets of paper to make the sit-upon more comfortable. When we had done that we put our newspaper sandwich into the plastic cereal bag and sealed the top with gaffer tape.

We also made seed bombs. We got some old egg boxes and tore them up into small pieces (about half an egg box between 2) in a mixing bowl. We added some water to make it mushy. We squeezed out most of the water and drained it off, before adding some seeds. We mixed the seeds with the carboard mush and moulded it into a ball.

We placed the ball on a small square of paper and wrapped it in tissue paper and tied it with jute string.

16th April 2024 – name games and agamographs

We played some name games to try and learn each others’ names as we had some new Brownies joining us.

We made some agamograph pictures using our names and something we liked as the second picture using the template from https://babbledabbledo.com/math-art-idea-make-an-agamograph/

Cut out the three rectangles. Throw away any scraps of paper.
Draw your pictures on the two smaller rectangles.
Fold along the lines of the larger rectangle (can use a sharp tool and ruler to score the lines to make it easier) to concertina it like a fan.
Cut out the strips of the pictures.
Apply glue all over the large rectangle.
Using the letters and numbers, stick your strips onto the big rectangle.
