30th April 2024 – UMA S.T.O.P and SB A City Walk

We discussed the S.T.O.P. method for when things go wrong. Then in our sixes we went round the 4 corners where there was a different scenario in each to think about what we would do in each case. We came back together to discuss our ideas.

Then we talked about cities we had visited and the reasons for going there, such as sightseeing, shopping or visiting family. In our sixes we came up with different scenarios of things that could happen in a city and mimed them while a narrator explained what was happening. Afterwards we chose one scenario to perform in front of the group. We were very good at miming and keeping quiet while the narrator told the story.

20th February 2024 – I am a physicist badge – magnets

Physics is all about forces. We have heard about the force of gravity, but were surprised to hear that it’s actually a weak force and is only large because the earth, moon and sun are so massive. The moon’s gravitational force makes tides happen on earth.

Magnetism is another force. We talked about magnetic items and tried to guess which things are magnetic and which aren’t. Then we tested our ideas with magnets.

Then we tried to predict how many pieces of paper a magnet could work through. Again we tested our hypothesis. Then we drew a maze on a piece of paper and moved a paperclip along the maze using our magnets.
